Weather alert – please prepare your communities for potential flooding from Tuesday
As you may have seen from this week’s weather forecasts, heavy rain is expected from Tuesday to Thursday that could impact with localised flooding in our communities.
Wednesday is the day we could receive the most significant rainfall with a yellow warning for rain, building on the higher volumes we have received in the last 10 days.
In conjunction with the Local Resilience Forum and Nottinghamshire County Council, we are now preparing for flooding incidents.
Please encourage local residents to deploy any local property resilience measures such as flood gates, air brick covers or check sandbag provisions to help reduce the possible impact. Please also check any local water course infrastructure that you may have responsibility for, to ensure it is free flowing.
As ever here at the Borough Council we will be ready to respond with support. We are available on 0115 981 9911 or on our out of hours number 0115 981 1143.
Our partners Streetwise will have teams on standby and will distribute sandbags with priority to households at imminent risk of internal flooding where requested but we ask for patience, as depending on the volume of rainfall, demand may be significant across the Borough.

A message from Brown Owl, which has been missed from the Decembers edition of the Signpost:
When will we manage to meet again?
Before Christmas has now gone to “next year”……..so disappointing. We’re in limbo!
However, if Brown Owl can get her act together, we hope to do a bit of Zooming before Christmas, just to keep our spirits up! It will be nice to say ” hello” to each other and maybe meet our new Brownies. We can have a gnome parade!
Hopefully the Butterfly and Halloween tree has been noticed together with our Remembrance Day display. There’s a Christmas one to come- -many of the decorations have been made by the Brownies in the past.
Hopefully, we’ll be back!
Best wishes to all.

Mayor plants commemorative tree to remember those lost in war from Rushcliffe
A commemorative tree has been planted by the Mayor of Rushcliffe and local school children to remember those lost in war from Rushcliffe and further signify 75 years since the end of World War II.
Cllr Sue Mallender was joined by Cllr Abby Brennan and Barney and Harriet Burrows to plant the graceful new oak tree in Bridgford Park in West Bridgford yesterday (Saturday).
It commemorates all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice from the Borough in all conflict and marked with a plaque to reflect the 75 years since VE Day. Cllr Mallender said: “We know so many Remembrance events and reflections are sadly absent in many cases this year due to COVID-19.
Therefore, we wished part of our commemorations this year to include planting this tree to remind residents we should never forget.
“Thank you to everyone who plays a part to remember those fallen at home this weekend.”
Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Community and The Environment Cllr Brennan was delighted a local park should be the focus of one of the Borough’s latest commemorations.
She said: “We know that so many residents love our parks, so what better way to mark this 75th Anniversary year than to provide a lasting monument to the sacrifice so many made in the second World War.
“We are living through difficult times for many now but is important that we still take time to remember those who gave so much whether in world wars or conflict in more recent times.
“People can visit the tree safely under the COVID-19 restrictions as part of their daily walk or exercise.”
Barney and Harriet from Lady Bay in West Bridgford echoed the Councillors’ thoughts.
They said: “The tree looks lovely and we hope it grows a lot bigger so it’s an even bigger reminder of everyone we have lost in the past.”
