Local Government Boundary Commission update:

March 1st, 2022

Some positive news from the Local Government Boundary Commission: having considered the points raised by Langar cum Barnstone Parish Council – among others – the Commission is proposing that Langar and Barnstone should now both fall within the single Rushcliffe Borough Council ward of Neville & Langar rather than the two villages being in separate wards. Good news for the Parish Council and for both of our villages.

The detailed proposals can be studied at https://consultation.lgbce.org.uk/node/27236, along with an opportunity to express your opinion. The Parish Council will discuss the issue at its next meeting.

These proposed boundary changes are distinct from the parliamentary constituency boundary changes which are also currently under consideration.

Signpost

February 2nd, 2022

As many of you will know, Heather Whitaker has decided to retire as Editor of Signpost after 10 years and 40 issues. The Parish Council wish to thank Heather for all the work she has put in to make the magazine the success it is today, informing and entertaining residents of happenings near and far.

The presses are waiting for the next issue and so the Parish Council is seeking a volunteer to pull future issues into shape. Although the title is that of ‘Editor’, Heather feels that ‘Formatter’ is a better description of the work involved in entering the articles and adverts into a desktop publishing program, as the sourcing of articles and advertisements, the proof-reading, and getting the final proof to the printers is handled by others.

If you feel you have experience or confidence in using a DTP program and can offer some of your time to help us, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Sharon Ellis, Parish Clerk, in the first instance

(T: 07984075016; E: langarbarnstoneclerk@gmail.com). As a special introductory offer, Heather has offered to assist the new Editor with getting to grips with the work involved.

The Carol service at St. Andrew’s, Sunday 19th December 4pm will now be OUTSIDE

December 16th, 2021

The Carol Service will be in the churchyard for everyone’s safety, not inside the church and will take about 30 minutes.

We will stand near the porch on the path and among the gravestones, but we can provide a few seats. The ground is uneven with a few low level stones, so be careful and warn others. Please maintain distance from others.

The service leaders, readers and music accompaniment will be in the porch. The outside lights on the church will give limited lighting.

You will each need a torch – sunset is at 3:48pm. If anyone can bring a lantern for outside use, that would help.

Face coverings are recommended on arrival and departure, but are not essential during the service.

The toilet will be available inside the church, but otherwise do not enter the building.

Having a recent negative lateral flow test is desirable. Please do not come if you had a positive result or you have any Covid-19 symptoms

The Order of Service, including words for the carols, will be available as a pdf file which you might like to download to your mobile phone or tablet to use at the service. We will email this to those who have booked and try to have it on the Wiverton in the Vale Parish web site (www.wivertoninthevale.co.uk), as well as a QR code on the noticeboard. A paper version (without the carols) and a carol sheet will also be available.

Booking is no longer essential but preferred.

Parking on the green at the church is slightly restricted.

So keep warm and we’ll make some joy in spite of the restrictions.

If you have any questions, please contact:
Trevor Simpson (trevor.simpson@wivertoninthevale.co.uk – 01949 860273)

Carol Services are also planned at churches in Tythby, Granby and Elton that day (check on www.wivertoninthevale.co.uk ).

Nottinghamshire’s consultation admission arrangements 2023-2024

October 5th, 2021

Nottinghamshire’s annual consultation on admission arrangements is now open and I write to ask for your help in drawing this to the attention of parents.  The County Council, as the admission authority for community and voluntary controlled schools, is required by the School Admissions Code to determine admission arrangements annually.  Any changes have to be consulted upon prior to determination.

This year, the consultation for the admission arrangements for 2023-2024 for all community and voluntary controlled schools in Nottinghamshire will be open between 4 October 2021 and 28 November 2021.

Please can you share information about the consultation widely within your church communities and other partner organisations who may have an interest in the proposed arrangements?  It is important that all consultees have an opportunity to comment on the proposed arrangements if they wish to do so.  A poster is attached which you may wish to include in any communication.

The key proposed changes for 2023-2024 include:

  • review of relevant areas
  • change to the admission number for Carnarvon Primary School

A summary of the consultation is attached and the full proposed arrangements are available on our public website https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/education/school-admissions/admissions-consultation-2023-24

It is important that all consultees have an opportunity to comment on the proposed arrangements if they wish to do so, comments can be made up to 28 November 2021 by:
