Questionnaire regarding crossroads between Barnstone & Langar

Dear Langar and Barnstone Community Member,

Langar School Council, in co-operation with Lucy Paine and James Barlow, have been looking into the road safety issues that we have in the villages.

You may have passed us many of us in the morning as we walk or cycle to school. Lots of us want to travel to school like this as it is good for our health and the environment. It is also good for us to start to do this independently as we get older and prepare for secondary school.

However, lots of us worry about getting across Musters Road; the crossroads between Barnstone and Langar. We know that lots of residents and parents worry about this crossing too.

The local councillors, Neil Clarke and Tina Combellack, share our concerns about the junction and they are really keen to support finding a way to make the crossing and getting to school safer. However, to make things happen we need to collect some information, in part so that whatever might be put in place meets the needs of us all.

So, whether or not you have a school age child, we would really value your answers to a few short questions. Please either reply by e-mail (lucypaine@gmail.com) or by dropping your completed questionnaire off at Langar School where there will be a box for them.

Vulnerable Rushcliffe Residents

As we look forward to the festive season there are growing concerns for our most vulnerable Rushcliffe residents if a home care provider should fail or if it could not continue to provide care due to staff absence in light of the current COVID-19 situation.

At any one time social care providers support approximately 9,000 people across Notts and sadly the rapid spread of the Omicron variant in the community and in care providers staff make this prospect ever more likely.

The County Council has developed plans to redeploy its own staff internally to deal with such an eventuality but clearly we are again in uncertain times and need to explore wider support networks.

Therefore as part of the Nottinghamshire Local Resilience Forum, each borough or district council is seeking those in councils and communities to offer support if the need arose. The sort of tasks include the following:

  • Safe and wellbeing checks – physical knock on the door
  • Safe and wellbeing check – phone call
  • Other types of lower level support through the County Council’s Community Support Hub, namely:

o             Access to food delivery

o             Access to food supply

o             Accessing medicine

o             Dog walking

o             Befriending/social wellbeing

Community Apple press available for hire:

Unfortunately there will be no Community Apple Day this year however if you have an abundance of fruit and want to turn it into juice then the apple press, crusher and other equipment is available to hire for a nominal fee* for residents of Langar and Barnstone.

*the nominal fee is to cover wear and tear of the equipment.

Business Grants

Eligible Rushcliffe business owners urged to apply for discretionary COVID-19 business grants

 

Rushcliffe Borough Council is now inviting applications from eligible business owners on the COVID-19 Discretionary Business Grants Scheme designed for those yet to receive central government financial support.

 

This grant is aimed at small businesses who were not eligible for the Small Business Grant Fund or the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Fund payments in April.

On May 22, the Government published its guidance for Councils developing the new scheme and the authority has now developed a policy which it feels is fair and consistent and which reflects the criteria they have outlined.

Small and micro business owners who have a relatively high ongoing property related costs of more than 15% of overheads are invited to apply as soon as possible for the limited funding.

 

They need to demonstrate they have suffered a significant fall in income, such as an 80% drop compared to April and May last year due to COVID-19 crisis and are not eligible for certain other business rates based grants.

 

Businesses also need to have been trading on March 11 this year and will have to provide supporting information and documents to complete the process.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Business and Transformation Cllr Andy Edyvean said: “We appreciate this is a very challenging time for so many businesses and particularly those yet to receive government support.

“We are committed to ensuring these further eligible business owners receive this discretionary grant but urge them to contact us soon as possible to ensure they do not miss out.

“We have paid out over £16m of COVID-19 business rates grant support to over 1,400 eligible businesses across the Borough from the initial grants in April and we hope more can now benefit with this vital resource as businesses look to get back on their feet.”
